Why I chose this book

I picked this book up last October when we were in Atlanta for the Association of Pet Dog Trainers Conference and Trade Show. I pretty much pick up everything I see on managing multiple dogs because well – that’s what I do every day. I have every other multiple dog book out there and picked this one up to see if a new point of view would add some fresh ideas for multiple dog management.

What’s it about?

This book is all about how to enjoy a multiple dog household using management and positive reinforcement techniques but much of the book could apply to managing multiple dogs in any environment from daycares to kennels to vet clinics.

Pro’s

◾Really easy to read text. This is one of those books that bot experienced trainers and novice dog owners can appreciate.
◾Real easy to read as a reference or to sit down and read it cover to cover
◾Chapter headings and index make it easy to look up specific issues.
◾Great references and resources section which includes not only a list of books and websites but a list of calming remedies, management tools and enrichment tools.
◾A great chapter on training that explains learning theory in plain language.
◾The author shares real life scenarios which illustrate how several different families homes manage their dogs and work with various issues.

Con’s

◾The layout bugs me. This book is text dense with some photos. And maybe it’s just me, but I find the dense text paired with sans-serif type-face makes for a book that is a tad difficult to read.

I would recommend this book to:

◾Anyone currently living with multiple dogs (your own or fosters)

◾Anyone contemplating adding another dog to their home.

◾Anyone working with multiple dogs (daycare attendants, shelter workers, dog walkers, pet sitters)
