Many Ways to Implement Ideas, August 11, 2010
Reviewer: Joan Willson
I have a multidog household and have had one for decades: sometimes 2, sometimes 3, sometimes 4 Irish and English setters and/or English cockers. The training tips in this book are invaluable. Of special interest to me was the section at the end of each chapter of examples of how people manage the problem (feeding time in a multidog household, for example) in different ways. There is no value judgment here. The expectations are realistic. Whatever works is what you do. The book simply helps you to achieve your goals.

A Unique & Valuable Resource, July 13, 2010

The author’s down-to-earth, well formatted writing style struck a chord with me on every page. One of the biggest lessons I learned is that I had been setting expectations too high for my dogs’ behavior, particularly in an environment where visiting/boarding dogs frequently come and go. Debby gives sound, practical advise for creating an environment and routine that can change your dogs’ behavior because they feel safe under your benevolent leadership. Her ‘life isn’t always fair’ philosophy and tips for balance gave me a great new perspective on juggling training and outings. Ultimately you will come away feeling that it is completely within your control to have a calm, happy multi-dog household.

Mine has been a multi-dog household for three decades, and although I’ve always considered myself pretty dog-knowledgeable, it wasn’t until I read this book that I actually began to gain some control over my household! Maintaining peace in my home is no longer out of reach! Debby’s practical tips on managing mealtimes, relaxation periods, raw feeding, and positive training have made a bigger difference in my dogs’ behavior than 30 years of books/classes/research. Even if you only have one dog at the moment (imagine the concept!), you will gain a lot of insight and tools from this book! Highly recommended.
